About
Based in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, Christian Rivers is an online guitar teacher, professional guitarist and musical director with over 20 years of industry experience. Throughout his professional journey, he has combined performing at the highest level with a passion for helping guitarists of all ages and abilities reach their potential. From complete beginners to experienced players, his focus has always been on making lessons enjoyable, inspiring and tailored to each individual's goals.
Christian believes that great teaching goes beyond showing students what to practise. By helping students understand how to practise effectively, build confidence and enjoy the learning process, his aim is to give every student the skills to continue improving long after each lesson has finished.
Teaching
Teaching has always been at the heart of Christian's career. Over the years, he has taught hundreds of students aged 6 to 76+, helping complete beginners, returning players and experienced guitarists build confidence, develop new skills and achieve their musical goals.
From 2015 to 2020, Christian taught guitar, band performance and music theory at The Rock Project, Berkshire, working with individuals, bands, small groups and large workshops. Today, he continues to teach students online across the UK and internationally, alongside offering in-person lessons in the High Wycombe area.
Christian believes that every student learns differently. Rather than following a rigid syllabus, every lesson is tailored to the individual's experience, musical tastes and ambitions, creating a relaxed environment where students can enjoy learning while making steady, long-term progress.
Professional Touring

Since Sophie Lloyd launched her solo career, Christian Rivers has been her guitarist and musical director, performing at venues and festivals across the UK and Europe.
Working at this level requires exceptional preparation, versatility and attention to detail. From learning extensive setlists and arranging live performances to delivering consistently high-quality shows, Christian's role has provided invaluable experience that he now brings into his teaching.
Performing with Sophie has included appearances at major festivals, arenas and televised events, such as Download Festival and the Women's Rugby World Cup Final, where the performance was watched by millions of viewers worldwide. Christian is proud to be part of Sophie's journey and looks forward to the exciting opportunities still to come.
Recording & Songwriting

Alongside his teaching and touring career, Christian has extensive experience as a songwriter, recording guitarist and original artist.
As a member of the award-winning rock band Marisa and the Moths, Christian (performing under the name Chris Merton at the time) wrote, recorded and performed original music, contributing to a band that received national recognition, including Album of the Year, airplay on Kerrang!, Planet Rock and BBC Radio, and a feature in Classic Rock magazine.
Christian's experience writing, arranging and recording original music gives him a deeper understanding of the creative process, allowing him to help students not only become better guitarists, but more creative and expressive musicians.
International Performance

Christian has performed extensively throughout Europe and the Middle East as a lead guitarist with professional function bands, entertaining audiences in luxury hotels, theatres and venues across the region.
Performing for up to three hours a night, six nights a week demanded versatility, consistency and the ability to master a huge repertoire of music. Over the course of his career, Christian has built a repertoire of more than 1,000 songs spanning rock, pop, blues, funk, acoustic and more, with the ability to quickly learn and perform new material to a high professional standard.
This extensive live performance experience enables Christian to help students develop not only their technical ability, but also the musicianship and preparation needed to perform at their best.

Throughout his career, Christian has built a diverse portfolio as a live and session guitarist, recording and performing across a wide range of musical projects.
His work has included recording guitar for albums, promotional videos and commercial projects, as well as performing with function bands, original artists and tribute productions. This breadth of experience has given Christian the versatility to adapt to different musical styles and the confidence to perform in a wide variety of professional settings.
Christian was also the lead guitarist for the acclaimed Pink Floyd tribute band Crazy Diamond, where he spent years studying David Gilmour's distinctive playing style, tone and phrasing. This attention to detail and passion for understanding great guitarists continues to influence both his playing and his teaching today.
